Make sure you often check the radiator in your car. Let the car run a while, but only long enough to let the fluid circulate. Never open the radiator cap if the car is on. Check the radiator fluids using a dipstick and remember to always mix the coolant with water prior to adding it.

Make sure all your car records are kept close. You want these with you when you go to get repairs done; a great place to store them is the glove compartment for easy access. The auto repair professionals will want to see any records. This will facilitate quicker and more precisely.

Make sure that you replace old parts with OEM parts.These means they are parts that come from the manufacturer of your car. Generic parts may be cheaper, but you don’t know the quality of these parts as time goes on. What is a cheap option now can cost twice as much as buying OEM in the first place.

It is true that this fluid lasts much longer than standard transmission fluid, but you will still have to replace it after 80,000 miles.

AAA is an excellent ally to have on your side when you need auto repair. You can often find discounts for repair costs from AAA.

You can easily do some preventative maintenance such as adding more oil or top up your windshield fluid on your own. It is a common misnomer that these items for you. Learn all you can, but understand that it may be dirty.

Don’t hire the mechanic who diagnosed your car as soon as you receive a quote for service. Call other dealerships or garages to inquire what they charge for the type of repair the original mechanic says you need. If another place can fix it cheaper, pay the shop for the labor and get your car fixed elsewhere.

When you know what you’re doing, auto repairs aren’t so scary. You can solve car problems by yourself and save some serious money by not needing a mechanic. Apply what you’ve learned here the next time you have car trouble.
